Make suggestions about our summer program plans!

PortSide will get a 55 day permit to do programming in Atlantic Basin this summer.  The program period starts on June 30.  We will do programming on the MARY A. WHALEN and have other visiting boats and events.

We want to make the tanker MARY A. WHALEN open to the public as often as possible. We want to hear what hours you’d like her open; and we want to ask you to help keep her open -- for example, we need volunteers on site as deck monitors to have her be open.

We also have other event and program ideas and want to share them with you and get your input.

PortSide urgently seeks volunteers to assist at the four Clipper City events below. Updates at our Volunteer webpage.

Please RSVP so we can better prepare for the meeting.

PortSide is starting its season by working with the NYC Economic Development Corporation & Manhattan by Sail, Inc. to make available to the community four sails on the Clipper City Tall Ship out of Atlantic Basin in a few weeks.

The Clipper City will leave Pier 11 at the Atlantic Basin, next to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and sails for about one and a half hours long. Sail dates are:

Friday 4/30 10 am                    Satuday 5/1 10 am

Friday 5/7 10 am                      Saturday 5/8 10 am

Starting Friday, April 16:

-      240 tickets were distributed via the web at http://portsideclippercity.eventbrite.com

-      120 tickets were available at Community Board 6

- Tickets have also been given to local senior centers, community organizations and representatives of public housing tenants for distribution.

PortSide NewYork is a non profit organization developing diverse programs about water and the waterfront. We are planning a maritime hub in Atlantic Basin with visiting vessels (working and historic), H2O themed arts, youth programs and recreation, a marine career center, cultural tourism products and policy - programs for diverse economic groups and individuals. Our chief ambassador is a 172' repurposed ship, the coastal oil tanker Mary A. Whalen. She serves both as our office and as a mobile cultural platform.
